MINUTES

POLICY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE

February 14, 2011

 

The Policy and Community Engagement Committee of the Board of Education of the School District of Jefferson met on Monday, February 14, 2011 in the Jefferson High School Library.  Chairperson Thompson called the meeting to order at 6:26 p.m. with Committee member Hollenberger and Pupanek present.

 

Approval of January 10, 2011 Committee Minutes: A motion to approve the January 10, 2011 minutes of the Policy and Community Engagement Committee as presented was made by Mrs. Pupanek, seconded by Mr. Hollenberger.  The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.

 

POLICY DEVELOPMENT TOPICS:

First Readings of Handbooks and Board Policies

A first reading of the following handbooks and board policies was conducted:

 

*        Jefferson Middle School Student Handbook: Following committee review, this handbook will be presented at the full Board on February 28, 2011.

 

*        Jefferson High School Coaches Handbook: Mr. Wilharm and Mr. Brimacombe explained some of the changes that have been made to this handbook.  Discussion included how often coaches are reviewing this document, conference bylaws, performance evaluations of coaches, building keys, scheduling, and locker room supervision.  Committee members asked for more time to review this lengthy new document and another reading will be conducted at the March committee meeting. 

 

*        2011 Summer School Handbook:  Mr. Howard explained that the logistics of changing locations from the high school to the middle school and west elementary are as yet being finalized.  He noted that Bowling will be the one new class being offered.  Following committee review, this handbook will be presented at the full Board on February 28, 2011.

 

*        Policy BD – School Board Meetings: Following committee review, this handbook will be presented at the full Board on February 28, 2011.

 

Revisions to Employee Recognition Plan: Mr. Swartz explained the modification to the composition of the recognition committee.

 

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TOPIC:

Superintendent’s Report on Jefferson Community TV Proposal: Mr. Swartz noted that he had nothing to report.

 

Discussion of Possible Topics for Future Meetings: 

Jefferson High School Coaches Handbook

Public tour of construction

 

A motion to adjourn was made by Mrs. Pupanek, seconded by Mr. Hollenberger. The motion passed on a voice vote.
