MINUTES

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION COMMITTEE

April 10, 2006

 

The Curriculum & Instruction Committee of the Board of Education of the School District of Jefferson met on Monday, April 10, 2006, in the High School Library.  Chairperson Whitmore called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. with Committee members Neils and Stoner present.  Mrs. Saelens was absent.  Alternate Schroeder arrived at 5:03 p.m.

 

Approval of March 13, 2006 Committee Minutes: Motion by Mr. Stoner, seconded by Ms. Neils to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2006 Curriculum & Instruction Committee as presented.  The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.

 

Curriculum and Instruction

§         Instrumental Music Update: Representatives of the grades 5-12 band program provided a two-year implementation update.  They thanked the Board for funding the purchase of new instruments (including chimes) and instrument cleaning.  Mr. Fritzsch explained that the acoustics in the middle school band room are greatly improved following recent renovations.

 

§         High School Science Implementation Update: Representatives of the high school science department reviewed the changes made this year in Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Physical Science.

 

Assessment

§         DPI Announces WKCE Test Report Delays:  The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has recently informed all school districts in the state that electronic versions of Phase 2 and 3 WKCE reports will not be available on April 17, 2006 as originally scheduled.  Significant problems have arisen in California with test scoring that could delay the availability of test reports until the first week of May.

 

Staff Development

§         Tentative Plans for April 25, 2006 Curriculum Early Release:  An overview of anticipated district-wide activities for the next curriculum early release day was provided. 

 

Final Thanks

§         Dr. Landfried and Board members thanked Mrs. Whitmore for her valuable leadership of the Curriculum Committee since its inception in 1998.   She will be missed.  Mr. Schroeder’s contributions to this committee were also highlighted.

 

A motion to adjourn was made by Ms. Neils, seconded by Mr. Schroeder.  The motion carried 3-0.
