activities agenda and a summary of staff evaluative feedback for the
meetings/discussions held in the district was provided for committee
review.
CURRICULUM AND
INSTRUCTION TOPICS:
Career Technical
Education – Programs of Study: Mr.
Herbst explained that as part of updating the K-12 Career/Technical Education
Program (formerly known as Vocational Education), something called Programs of
Study (POS) are being developed. A
Program of Study helps students determine courses to take in high school so
that they will be adequately prepared for postsecondary education and
training. Not only are career and
technical education teachers involved in POS development and implementations,
but core academic and fine arts teachers as well as counselors play a vital
role.
Mr.
Herbst noted that the intent is to use these Programs of Study as teaching and
career planning tools with students.
Drafts of the various Programs of Study were provided for committee
review and discussion. It is hoped that
the Programs of Study can be included within future High School Course
Description Booklets.
