MINUTES

CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION COMMITTEE

November 14, 2011

 

The Curriculum and Instruction Committee of the Board of Education of the School District of Jefferson met on Monday, November 14, 2011, in the Jefferson High School Library.  Chairperson Dwyer called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. with Committee member Stoner and alternate Buth present.  Mr. Volk arrived at 5:34 p.m.

 

Approval of October 10, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes: A motion to approve the Curriculum & Instruction Committee meeting minutes from October 10, 2011 as presented was made by Dr. Stoner, seconded by Mr. Buth.  The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. 

 

ASSESSMENT TOPIC(S)

Update on Transition to New WKCE Test: Mr. Nolan reviewed potential changes to student assessments.  He noted that Department of Public Instruction initiatives include summative assessments that may be implemented as early as the 2014-2015 school year.

 

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION TOPICS

Report on Middle School Block Schedule Pilot: Mr. Rollefson reviewed the Grade 6 Block Schedule survey results.  He surveyed both parents and staff members following a pilot of the schedule that took place during the 2010-2011 school year.  The middle school is continuing the block schedule for grade 6 because of the positive feedback it has received.

 

One-to-One Student Computing Devices Presentation: A brief overview of the research done to date on the concept of computers for every student was given by Mr. Rollefson and Mr. Linse.  The committee continues to meet and will study the impact on the district.

 

Board Curriculum Summary Sheet: Mr. Swartz provided a condensed summary of the curriculum at the various levels as requested by a Board member.

A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Volk, seconded Dr. Stoner. The motion passed on a voice vote.
